# Backup codes

## Introduction

When it is not possible, for any reason, to use the 2FA method you have set up, back-up codes can be used instead to login.

In your back-up code file, there are ten different 8-digit codes displayed. These codes can each only be used once.

## Find the back-up codes

After you set up your two-factor authentication (2FA), you are asked to download the Zivver back-up codes. You should store these back-up codes in a safe folder on your computer where you can easily find them.

If you have downloaded the back-up codes but did not move them to a separate folder, you may find the back-up codes in the following folder on your computer: `Users\<username>\Downloads`. The standard filename of the file containing your back-up codes contains the words `Zivver` and `back-up code`.

## Download back-up codes

If you have not downloaded your back-up codes when you set up your 2FA, you can download them later:

1. Log in to the [Zivver WebApp](https://app.zivver.com/).
2. Go to **My profile**.
3. Click _security_ **Security**.
4. In the section **Two-factor authentication for your account (2FA)**, click the Show backup codes button.
5. Enter your password.
6. Click Verify.
7. Click Download to download the back-up codes.
8. Save the back-up codes in a folder on your computer.

## Use a back-up code

If you cannot log in with your Authenticator app or with the code by SMS, you can use a back-up code instead:

1. Login to the Webapp with your email address and password

_You are asked to fill in the 6-digit code from the Authenticator app or SMS_
2. Copy one of the 8-digit back-up codes in the input field
3. Click Verify.

_You are now logged in._

Note

If you are no longer able to use the Authenticator app or code set by SMS, you must immediately [reset your 2FA login method](https://docs.zivver.com/en/faqs/reset-2fa.html) after you log in with a back-up code.
