# 2FA Setup with Google Authenticator

## Introduction

Learn how to set up an extra login method for your account using the Google Authenticator app. Adding an extra login method provides additional security for both your account and your messages.

## Install an Authenticator app on your smartphone

1. Open the App Store (iOS) or Google Play Store (Android) on your smartphone.
2. Search for `Google Authenticator`.
3. Download and install the Google Authenticator app.

## Set up an additional login method

To link the Authenticator app to your Zivver account, first complete the following steps on your computer:

01. Open your browser.
02. Log in to the [WebApp](https://app.zivver.com/).
03. Click **My profile** at the bottom left of your screen.
04. Click _security_ **Security**.
05. Click the Setup button next to **Two-factor authentication for your account (2FA)**.

_A new window opens._
06. Enter your password.
07. Click Verify.
08. Click Next.
09. Select the **Authenticator App** option.
10. Click Next.

Note

Do you want to set up the Authenticator app on multiple smartphones? Then save the code that is currently displayed on your screen. You will need it to add the Authenticator app on additional devices. This can be useful if you share an account with multiple colleagues.

Perform the steps for one of the options below on your smartphone:

**Option 1: Scan a QR code**

1. Open the Google Authenticator app.
2. Tap the plus button in the bottom right corner.
3. Tap **Scan QR code** _photo_camera_.
4. If prompted, allow the Google Authenticator app to access your camera.
5. Scan the QR code displayed on your computer screen.

_The account is now added to the Google Authenticator app._
6. Return to your computer to finish the setup.

**Option 2: Enter the secret**

01. Open the Google Authenticator app.

02. Tap the plus button in the bottom right corner.

03. Tap **Enter setup key** _keyboard_.

04. Enter the **Account name**.

05. Enter your **key** from the computer screen.

06. Under **Type of key**, choose **Time based**.

07. Tap **Add**.

_The account is now added to the Google Authenticator app._

08. Return to your computer to finish the setup.

09. Click Next.

10. Enter the code from the Google Authenticator app.
11. Click Next.
12. Click Download.
13. Choose a safe location for your backup codes.

_You have successfully set up an additional login method for your account._

Tip

Save your backup codes in a secure place. You can use them to log in if the Google Authenticator app is unavailable.

## Log in with the Google Authenticator app

1. Log in to the [WebApp](https://app.zivver.com/).

_You will be asked to enter the code from the Authenticator app._
2. Open the Google Authenticator app on your smartphone.
3. Enter the 6-digit code shown under your Zivver account.
4. Click Verify.

_You have now logged in to the WebApp with your Zivver account._
