# 2FA Setup with Chrome Authenticator

## Introduction
How to set up an extra login method for your account using an Authenticator extension in Google Chrome. You add an extra login method to increase the security of your account and messages. Use the Authenticator extension in Google Chrome if you cannot or do not want to use a mobile phone to set up an additional login method.

## Install an Authenticator app on your computer
For this method, you need the Chrome web browser. [Download Google Chrome](https://www.google.com/chrome/)

Make sure Google Chrome is installed before you start this procedure.

1. In Chrome, go to the [web store](https://chrome.google.com/webstore/).
2. In the search field at the top left, type `Authenticator`.
3. Click the **Authenticator** app from `authenticator.cc/`.
4. Next to [Authenticator](https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/authenticator/bhghoamapcdpbohphigoooaddinpkbai), click **Add to Chrome**.

_You have successfully added the extension. Chrome now displays the icon of the Authenticator extension in the top right corner of your browser window, next to the address bar._

## Set up an additional login method
Now, link the Authenticator app to your Zivver account:

01. Open Chrome.
02. Log in to the [WebApp](https://app.zivver.com/).
03. Click **My profile** at the bottom left of your screen.
04. Click _security_ **Security**.
05. Click the Setup button next to **Two-factor authentication for your account (2FA)**.

_A new window opens._
06. Enter your password.
07. Click Verify.
08. Click Next.
09. Select the **Authenticator App (recommended)** option.
10. Click Next.
11. Click the _content_copy_ button to copy the code.

Note

Do you want to set up the Authenticator app on multiple computers? Then save the code you just received. You will need the code from step 11 to set up the Authenticator app on multiple computers. This can be useful if you want to log in on different computers with the same account.

12. Click the Authenticator app icon in the top right-hand corner next to the address bar.

_A new window opens._
13. Click the _create_ icon.
14. Then click the _add_ icon.
15. Select **Manual entry**.
16. Enter an account name.
17. Paste the copied code (from step 11) under **Secret**.
18. Expand the **Advanced** menu.
19. Under **Type**, select the **Time based** menu option.
20. Click **Ok**.

_You have created a new account in the Authenticator app. In the initial window of the app, you will see this account with a rotating 6-digit code. The countdown on the right indicates how long the current code is valid._
21. Click the 6-digit code to copy it.
22. Return to the Zivver WebApp.
23. Click Next.
24. Paste the code under **6-digit code generated by your app**.
25. Click Next.

_You will see a screen with backup codes. These are important in case the Authenticator app is unavailable. You can use a backup code instead of an SMS code when you are unable to receive one._
26. Click Download.
27. Choose a safe location for the backup codes.

_You have successfully set up an additional login method for your account._

Tip

Save the backup codes somewhere secure. You use these codes to log in when the Authenticator app is not available.

## Log in with the Authenticator app
1. Log in to the [WebApp](https://app.zivver.com/).

_You are asked to enter the code from the Authenticator app._
2. Click the Authenticator app icon in the top right-hand corner next to the address bar.
3. Click the 6-digit code to copy it.
4. Paste the code into the field on the web page.
5. Click Verify.

_You have logged into the WebApp with your Zivver account._

## Set up the Authenticator app on multiple computers
You can set the Authenticator app on multiple computers. For this, you need the code from step 9 in the chapter [Set up an additional login method](https://docs.zivver.com/en/user/webapp/references/2fa-setup-with-chrome-authenticator.html#set-up-an-additional-login-method). Repeat the steps below on each computer where you want to use the Authenticator app.

01. In Chrome, go to the [web store](https://chrome.google.com/webstore/).
02. At the top left of the search field, type `Authenticator`.
03. Click the **Authenticator** app from `authenticator.cc/`.
04. Next to [Authenticator](https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/authenticator/bhghoamapcdpbohphigoooaddinpkbai), click **Add to Chrome**.

_You have successfully added the extension. Chrome now displays the icon of the Authenticator extension in the top right corner of your browser window, next to the address bar._
05. Click the Authenticator app icon in the top right-hand corner next to the address bar.

_A new window opens._
06. Click the _create_ icon.
07. Then click the _add_ icon.
08. Select **Manual entry**.
09. Enter an account name.
10. Paste the copied code (from step 9) under **Secret**.
11. Expand the **Advanced** menu.
12. Add **Type**, select the **Time based** menu option.
13. Click **Ok**.

15. Return to the Zivver WebApp.
16. Click Next.
