# Reset password

How to reset your password? You may want to reset your password, for example, when you have forgotten it.

Warning

Resetting your password causes you to lose access to old messages. You can restore access to these old messages with a recovery code.

Tip

Does Zivver indicate that your password is incorrect, even though you are sure it is correct? It often happens that people mistype their password several times in a row—even if they enter it daily.

**Tip 1**: Keep trying! It often works after a few attempts.

**Tip 2**: Type your password in a text editor to check it. Then copy and paste it into the password field. This way, you can be sure you entered it correctly.

Do you log in using your workplace credentials? In that case, contact your organization’s service desk to request a new password.

## Procedure

01. Go to the Zivver [WebApp](https://app.zivver.com/).
02. Enter your email address.
03. Click Next.

_You are now on the password screen._
04. At the bottom of the password screen, click **Forgot your password? - Reset your Zivver password**.
05. Enter your email address.
06. Click Reset password.

_You will receive an email with reset instructions._
07. Open your mailbox.
08. Open the email with the subject: _Password reset for your Zivver account_.
09. Click Reset password.

_A new browser tab opens._
10. Enter and confirm your new password.
11. Click Continue.

_You are now prompted to enter your recovery code._

_**USERS**: You can choose to skip this step. To skip, click **Let me enter the recovery code later**. You can enter a recovery code later to [recover access to your old messages](https://docs.zivver.com/en/user/webapp/recovery-code.html)._

_**ADMINISTRATORS**: Do this now._
12. Return to your mailbox and find the email that contains the recovery code corresponding to your old password.

_This recovery code was sent to you on the date and time shown in Zivver._

_Look for an email with **Zivver recovery code** in the subject line._
13. Go back to the Zivver WebApp browser tab.
14. Enter the recovery code in the recovery code prompt.
15. Click Reset password.

_Your password has been successfully reset. You can now log in with your new password._

Note

After you change your password, you will receive a new recovery code in an email titled `<number> - Zivver recovery code [Keep]`. This new recovery code corresponds to your new password. Keep it in a safe place!

## What to do if your recovery code does not work

To recover your messages, you must use the recovery code that you received when you set your **old** password. See [Restore access to messages](https://docs.zivver.com/en/user/webapp/recovery-code.html) for instructions on how to find the correct recovery code and recover your messages.
