# Change the email address of an account

Warning

**Using automatic account management?**

If your organization uses automatic account management, do not follow the steps below to change an email address manually. Update the email address at the source instead — the Synctool’s [Account Mapping](https://docs.zivver.com/en/admin/synctool-v2/syncing.html#account-mapping) or Cloud Sync will automatically synchronize the change to the existing Zivver account.

Note

This article describes how to change an email address when your organization has a claimed domain. If your organization does not have a claimed domain, see [Change email address as administrator without a claimed domain](https://docs.zivver.com/en/admin/webapp/references/change-email-address-as-admin.html) instead.

If a user’s email address changes, for example due to a name change, you can update it on their existing account. The user keeps access to previous conversations and does not need a new account.

## Prerequisites

You must have a claimed domain.

## Procedure

In the Zivver WebApp, you can change the email address of an existing account by adding the new address as an alias and setting it as the primary email address.

01. Log in to the [Zivver WebApp](https://app.zivver.com/).
02. Click **Organization Settings**.
03. Expand **User administration**.
04. Click **Accounts**.
05. Click Manage next to the account for which you want to change the email address.
06. Scroll to **Mail aliases**.
07. Click Add alias.
08. Enter the new email address.
09. Click Add alias.
10. Click Make primary next to the new email address.
11. _Optional_: Click Delete alias next to the old email address.

_The email address of the account has now been changed._
