# Clean up Office and Outlook registry settings

## Introduction

How to clean up the registry after installation of Office or Outlook.

This registry cleanup can fix problems such as Zivver messages not loading on receipt, an error message appearing when sending messages, Outlook crashing, or the Plugin not being visible in Outlook after installation.

The generic problems above may be caused by issues with the installation of the Plugin, Office, or Outlook. If Outlook has been updated from, for example, version 2016 to 2019, the registry may still contain old references. These old references can cause problems in Outlook.

Follow these steps to remove these remains and clean up the installation. It is also possible to remove and reinstall Outlook. However, the Outlook repair function does not solve this problem.

## Office registry cleanup

You can restore the registry if a problem occurs after modifying it.

The table below lists the version numbers corresponding to commercial names of Microsoft Office editions. You will need to reference this table for some of the procedures in this section.

2.6 and 2.7 are also valid for Office 2016 if there is a reference to Office16 under 2.7.

Use the **Windows Registry Editor** to clean up remains of old installations.

1. Press **Win** \+ **R**.
   
   A **Run** screen opens.
2. Type `regedit` in the search box.
3. Click **OK**.
   
   Windows Registry Editor starts.
4. Navigate to the following location:
   
   `HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\TypeLib\{2DF8D04C-5BFA-101B-BDE5-00AA0044DE52}`
   
   Or, if you are using a 64-bit system:
   
   `HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\WOW6432Node\TypeLib\{2DF8D04C-5BFA-101B-BDE5-00AA0044DE52}`
5. Check if the values of the underlying folders match the version of Office currently in use. Consult the table above.
6. Delete the folders for versions of Outlook that are **not** installed. Consult the table above.

Warning

Do not delete the entry for the version of Office you have installed.

## Outlook registry cleanup

Use the **Windows Registry Editor** to clean up remains of old installations.

1. Press **Win** \+ **R**.
   
   A **Run** screen opens.
2. Type `regedit` in the search box.
3. Click **OK**.
   
   Windows Registry Editor starts.
4. Navigate to the following location:
   
   `HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Interface\{00063001-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}\TypeLib`
   
   Or, if you are using a 64-bit system:
   
   `HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\WOW6432Node\Interface\{00063001-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}\TypeLib`
5. Search for the **Version** entry here (type `REG_SZ`).
6. Check if the value matches the version of Outlook currently in use. Consult the table above.
7. Navigate to the following location:
   
   `HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\TypeLib\{00062FFF-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}`
8. Delete the paths for versions of Outlook that are **not** installed. Consult the table above.

Warning

Do not delete the entry for the version of Outlook you have installed.

_Remains of the old Outlook installation have been successfully removed. Restart Outlook and verify if this solution worked._
